In his latest article for the Friends, Dr Tony Wakeford explores the connection between gramophone records in his collection and the documentary records held at The National Archives. Amongst the heavily weeded files of the British Council that are now held at The National Archives there are some interesting stories to tell about the Council’s work and endeavours in promoting British culture. In Tony’s collection of gramophone records he has two records from the set of Holst’s Planets Suite, Op.32, recorded under the auspices of the British Council and released in 1945.
